Parks

One of the most untapped resources for the general public is only a short ride from home.  Public parks are a great way to relax and get the kids out of the house.  Most of these parks offer walking paths, baseball/softball diamonds, soccer fields and playgrounds.  Please use the highlighted park district links below for more information on your local parks.

 

Downers Grove Park District

The Park District’s mission is to provide a wide variety of year-round recreation programs, facilities, parks, open space and natural areas that respond to the articulated needs and desires of residents.

The Downers Grove Park District serves a population of approximately 50,000; oversees over 600 acres of parks and facilities and provides leisure programs to over 56,000 participants annually.  The Downers Grove Park District has touched thousands of lives and has grown into a district for all seasons.

Westmont Park District

The Westmont Park District maintains over 150 acres of park property throughout the village.  It is the mission of the Westmont Park District to provide quality and enjoyable leisure experiences and improve the quality of life for individual residents of all ages and the community of Westmont as a whole.

Kiwanis Park PlaygroundTwin Lakes Golf Club

The Westmont Park District uses its parks and facilities as well as the recreational assets in a comprehensive program of athletics, exercise and special events. There is an activity for every age group from toddlers to senior citizens. The Westmont Park District offers many inexpensive and fun activities, programs & classes designed for a wide variety of ages.

 

Glen Ellyn Park District

Glen Ellyn Park District maintains 29 parks for the community's use and provides over 400 programs year round.  Glen Ellyn is located in DuPage County, 23 miles west of Chicago, adjacent to rapidly growing suburban areas.  The Glen Ellyn Park District is a National Gold Medal Award finalist! The award recognizes excellence in park and recreation management in the areas of long-range planning, resource management, volunteerism, environmental stewardship, program development, and professional development.

 

Naperville Park District

 

The Naperville Park District, serves a community of 140,000+ residents. The District maintains and operates more than 2,500 acres overall comprised of more than 130 parks and facilities and serves approximately 60,000 participants each year.

 

Included within the Naperville Park District’s operations are two championship golf courses, a paddleboat quarry, and the beautiful River walk - a pathway that stretches throughout the downtown area.

 

Lisle Park District

The Lisle Park District maintains over 110 acres of park property throughout the village.  It is the mission of the Lisle Park District to provide quality and enjoyable leisure experiences and improve the quality of life for individual residents of all ages and the community of Lisle as a whole.

River Bend Golf Course 

The Lisle Park District is home to some of Illinois most protected wetlands. Make sure you take advantage of the Lisle Park District's pathways that take you through a small, natural wetland where you can find some of the prairie grasses, plants and birds that are native to Illinois.  The Lisle Park District has miles of scenic bike paths throughout Lisle.

 

St. Charles Park District

The St. Charles Park District owns and manages more than 1,400 acres of parks including two dedicated Illinois Nature Preserves (Norris Woods and Ferson Creek Fen), Boy Scout Island, Otter Creek Bend Wetland Park, area bike trails.

The St. Charles Park District operates the historic Pottawatomie Golf Course, designed by the renowned golf architect, Robert Trent Jones. On October 3, 1997, Audubon International designated Pottawatomie Golf Course as a certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. It was the first nine-hole golf course, internationally, to become certified in all six Audubon categories to include: Environmental Planning; Water Conservation; Integrated Pest Management; Outreach and Education; Water Quality Management; and Wildlife and Habitat Management.

 

Wheaton Park District

The Wheaton Park District consists of 829 acres of parks, pools and open spaces for recreational use. All properties are cared for and maintained by park services.
 

Wheaton parks have a variety of features including open spaces with grassy expanses, baseball, softball, football and soccer fields, athletic areas for ice skating, volleyball, tennis, in-line skating and hockey.   Other parks include swimming pools, outdoor theatres, picnic areas, ponds, wetlands, and acres of natural area.  Facilities include a water park, pool, children's zoo, teams course, a community center and golf club.

 

DuPage County Forest Preserve

The mission of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County is to acquire and hold lands containing forests, prairies, wetlands, and associated plant communities or lands capable of being restored to such natural conditions for the purpose of protecting and preserving the flora, fauna, and scenic beauty for the education, pleasure, and recreation of its citizens.
